The Department of Educational Leadership and Policy Studies’ (EDL) Ed.D. Doctoral Program in Educational Leadership prepares educational leaders, researchers, and policy makers in its 4-year, cohort-based program geared toward the working professional.?

Graduates of our program assume prominent positions of leadership in public and private school systems and research and policy organizations in Connecticut, nationally, and throughout the world.?

The program offers two concentrations:

  • a “General” concentration through which students craft a unique program of study to suit their particular professional interest in K-12 or higher education leadership, education research, education policy, or other education-related areas,
  • an 092 Connecticut Intermediate Administrator Certification concentration through which students are certified to serve as building-level leaders in the State of Connecticut.

The Department of Educational Leadership and Policy Studies (EDL) prepares educational leaders to assume prominent positions of leadership in public and private school systems, and in other service agencies in Connecticut, nationally, and in countries throughout the world. Students are equipped with the skills and dispositions needed to become effective and transformational educational leaders. The modalities that EDL faculty employ to help prepare outstanding educational leaders include: a cohort model, intensely rigorous coursework, embedded field-based experiences, personalized faculty advisement, dedicated school-based mentors, and reflective practices in all aspects of leadership development. The Department maintains professional and collegial relationships and partnerships with school districts and school leaders across the state, as well as with state level education officials and educational leaders of regional educational service centers (RESCS) and the State Educational Resource Center (SERC). This affords the Department the availability of valuable sources of support and information, including workshop opportunities to best prepared our students. ?Technology and online platforms are used to enhance and supplement classroom-based and experiential instruction and learning.
